JUST TASTE AND SEE!

I remember when I was young my cousin Rita and I were eating breakfast. We had some scrambled eggs. I grabbed the ketchup bottle and poured some on mine. Rita said, “Ugh, you put ketchup on your eggs? That’s nasty…”

I asked Rita if she ever tried it before and she said no. So I told her to taste it. She resisted. “Just taste it”, I persisted. “Just taste a little piece. At least then you’ll know if you like it or not. But you’ll never know until you taste it.” So finally I convinced Rita to taste a small portion of the ketchup and eggs. When she tasted it, her face lit up. She not only liked it, but she covered her eggs with the ketchup. She loved it. She now has a passion for it. But what started it? She had to first taste it.

“Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him!” Psalm 34:8

Likewise, the same is true with God and His Word. The first thing you need to do is taste Him. The word “taste” means to become acquainted with by experience. You need to just trust God. Put God to the test. Because until you try Him, you will never develop the passion that you need. If you do not taste and see, then you’ll never create the hunger and appetite for the Word of God. Have you ever been in the mall or the grocery store and someone comes up to you offering you a sample? For example, a Chinese restaurant employee walks up to you with some sesame chicken on a toothpick. You try the sample and say to yourself, “Boy, this is good.” The next thing you know you’re ordering Chinese food. But you weren’t even thinking about Chinese food. What happened? You tasted and saw that it was good. Therefore, it created a hunger in you.

“I have not departed from Your judgments, for You Yourself have taught me. How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” Psalm 119:102-103

When you taste and see how good God and His Word are, you’ll never want to depart from Him. When you try God and experience Him, you’ll develop the passion of righteousness. You’ll have the courage and the tenacity to keep going. You’ll have the zeal inside of you to stand on His Word firm until the end. But it all starts with you putting the Word to the test.

“My child, eat honey, for it is good, and the honeycomb is sweet to the taste. In the same way, wisdom is sweet to your soul. If you find it, you will have a bright future, and your hopes will not be cut short.” Proverbs 24:13-14 NLT

WHAT IS PASSION?
You must have passion. There are necessary steps that you need to take to achieve your destiny. There are certain things that you need to do to get results in your life. Without passion, you will go through the motions, but you will never reach your destination. It’s going to take passion to finish the race. What is passion?

Passion – intense, driving, or overmastering feeling; an energetic pursuit of an aim or devotion to a cause; a strong liking, delight, or desire for some activity, object, or concept; a strong desire or zeal; a hunger or appetite; to have tenacity and courage; not easily pulled apart; persistent in maintaining or clinging to something valuable.
You must have passion for righteousness if you want to experience all that God has for you. You must have a hunger, desire, and appetite in your heart for God’s Word. You must have a tenacity and zeal for Him. Because if you don’t, it will not take much to pull you apart from Him. You’ll start acting on His Word, but you’ll never finish. Passion says, “I’m going to stick to the Word no matter what!”

EAT TO LIVE
“…men and women don't live by bread only; we live by every word that comes from God's mouth.” Deut. 8:3 MSG

The above Scripture doesn’t tell you to not live off of bread or food. The Scripture is saying that you don’t live off of food only. In other words, food is necessary for your physical body to live. If there’s no food you could die. Likewise, the Word of God is necessary for your spirit to live. If there’s no Word you could die (Proverbs 5:23). The Bible is just as important to you as food. You have to know that, because you make sure that you eat food. Therefore, make sure that you consume the Word of God.

Do you think that you would have a healthy body if you ate food only twice a week? Of course not! Then how do you expect your spirit to be strong by only getting the Word Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights? Don’t starve your spirit from God’s Word. Feed your spirit daily. There are so many Christians who are malnourished, spiritual midgets, because they’re not receiving an adequate amount of the Word. Get full from the Scriptures. Get full everyday and more than once a day.

“You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.” Matthew 5:6 MSG

When you wake up in the morning, get into God’s Word. When you’re sitting down, read the Bible or a book that will help you understand His Word. When you’re going for a walk, put God’s Word in your mouth. When you’re in your car, pop in a teaching CD that will take you to the next level. Talk to your family about the Bible. Write encouraging Scriptures on index cards and keep them with you. Even when you get in the bed, don’t close your eyes before reading the Bible. Let the Good News, not the media news, be the last thing that you see before going to bed. Talk to God. This may sound a bit much but it is God’s will for your life (Deut. 6:5-9). This is what you do when you Love God with all your heart, soul, and strength. You just have to work up an appetite for the Word of God.

You CAN!

I’ve been reading Joyce Meyer’s NEW book “Power Thoughts". I think it’s a really great book. Many have joined me as I’ve been sharing principles in my “Billie Reads" BLOG. I’m up to Chapter 5 in the book which talks about Power Thought #1. Let me share with you some nuggets that you can chew on.
“I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency].” Philippians 4:13 AMP

You can do whatever you need to do in Life through Christ. You must believe this regardless of what comes at you. The moment you say, “I could never do that!" that’s when satan says, “I got you!" But according to the above Scripture, you CAN win. You CAN live. God never said that the journey would be easy, but He did say you’ll reach a destination. He never promised that you’ll enjoy the process, but He promised that you’ll enjoy Life. He never guaranteed that you wouldn’t fall, but He guarantees us strength to keep going.
“Nothing is too difficult for you if God is leading you to do it. God will not call you to do anything He will not enable and empower you to do.” ~ Joyce Meyer

God will not lead you to ‘impossibility’. It may be impossible before you get there. But once you arrive, God makes it possible.
Jesus replied, "Why do you say `if you can'? Anything is possible for someone who has faith!" Mark 9:23 CEV

Joyce Meyer goes on to say, “Miracles Come in Cans." Let me explain what she means by that. Many people are used to hearing others repeatedly tell them “You can't." People always tell you what you cannot do. Therefore, many people grow up thinking, “I can't" when that’s the farthest thing from the truth.
“No matter how many times you have heard someone say to you, ‘You can’t,’ I want to say to you, ‘Oh, yes, you can!’ I believe that miracles come in cans – our belief that we can do whatever we need to do through Christ Who is our strength.”
~ Joyce Meyer

God believes that you CAN. I believe that you CAN. Now it’s time for you to start believing in yourself. Today is your day. Come into agreement and say, “I CAN!"

ON-PURPOSE THINKING

It’s amazing how much negative thinking can affect you. It steals your joy. It makes you grumpy. It makes you moody. It makes people feel uncomfortable around you. When your thoughts are negative, everything about you becomes negative. This makes it almost impossible for you to be happy. As a matter of fact, most unhappy people are people who have negative thinking. They fix their minds more on what’s wrong rather than what’s right.
“They probably do no realize they could be happy if they would simply change the way they think. We must stop merely WAITING for something good to happen and take action to ensure that something good will happen.” ~ Joyce Meyer

The good news is you don’t have to be unhappy. You can do something about it. You can start by doing what’s called ‘On-Purpose Thinking’. ‘On-Purpose Thinking’ is when you purposefully think good thoughts. It’s when you intentionally make wise decisions. It’s when you plan to think positive.
“We do not have to meditate on everything that pops into our minds; we can choose what we want to think about. We can choose power-enhancing thoughts – not power-draining thoughts.”
~ Joyce Meyer

In the 4th chapter of Joyce Meyer’s book ‘Power Thoughts’ she explains three keys to On-Purpose Thinking (pg. 56-63).
1. Set Your Mind and Keep It Set.
“And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth.” Colossians 3:2 AMP

2. Renew Your Mind.
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
Romans 12:2 NLT

3. ‘Gird Up’ Your Mind.
“Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;” 1 Peter 1:13

Follow these steps and don’t allow yourself to get distracted. Stay focused. Stay on course. Have some ‘Think Sessions’ where you make time every day to think GREATNESS. Think on purpose.

The Enemies of Your Mind.

“The dumbest person in the world is the one who thinks they know it all and have no more need to learn.” ~ Joyce Meyer

There are several enemies to your mind and I believe that ‘ignorance’ is the main one. Before you jump to conclusions and scream, “Not me!”, let’s first find out what the word ‘ignorance’ mean. Many people mistaken ‘ignorance’ to mean foolish or stupid. You’d see someone acting crazy and you’d say, “He or she is so ignorant…” But ignorance doesn’t mean foolish or stupid. Now it can lead you to being foolish or stupid, but it doesn’t mean the same thing.

Ignorance – to lack knowledge; resulting from or showing lack of intelligence; lack of awareness of a particular thing.

‘Stupid’ is when you make decisions based on your ignorance. So there’s a difference between being ‘ignorant’ and being ‘stupid’. For example, I’m ‘ignorant’ of flying an airplane. I simply just lack the knowledge. But I would be ‘stupid’ if I tried to fly one anyway.
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”
Hosea 4:6

The above Scripture reveals the very thing that’s destroying us. It didn’t say a lack of money; or a lack of health; or a lack of support… It said that it’s a lack of knowledge that’s destroying us. Ignorance is the enemy of your mind. Have you ever heard of the saying, “What you don’t know won’t hurt you.”? That’s not necessarily true according to the Bible verse that we just read. What you don’t know can ‘destroy’ you. It can eliminate you. It can reduce you to nothing. It can kill you. You could die. Why? Not because of a lack of protection, but because of a lack of knowledge.

The Bible says that we shouldn’t be ignorant. We especially shouldn’t be ignorant of the enemy’s devices or schemes to deceive (2 Corinthians 2:11). One of the devil’s biggest deceptions is to make you think that he’s not real. Another one of his deceptions is to make you think that God’s Word doesn’t work. If satan can make you believe these things, then he’s got you!

Another enemy of your mind is called ‘strongholds’. The enemy will build a stronghold in your mind.
“Strongholds are wrong mind-sets and thought patterns that are based on lies and enable the enemy to dominate certain areas of our lives.” ~ Joyce Meyer

So how can you protect yourself against the enemies of your mind? You can protect yourself by renewing your mind. Renewing the mind is when you remove that old thinking that has long stopped working for us and you refill it with new information that will get results. Renewing the mind is when you learn how to think properly. It’s when you line up your thoughts with the Word of God.
“Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude]…”
Romans 12:2 AMP

You need to gain knowledge from the Bible and get understanding. Understanding God’s Word is what produces faith. Understanding God’s Word is what produces change. So I want to leave you with some steps that I believe will help you to battle the enemies of your mind.

STEPS:
1. Join a Bible Study or Small Study Group.

2. Purchase books that will help you understand God’s Word. You can start off with this book by Joyce Meyer “Power Thoughts”. Also I recommend getting a Daily Devotion. My favorite one is called “Grace for the Moment (morning & evening edition) by Max Lucado.

TRAIN YOUR BRAIN

“If we want to live healthy lives, we have to have healthy minds – and that starts with thinking positively instead of negatively.”~ Joyce Meyer

I’m a father and the Bible tells me to train my daughter up in the way that she should go. I’m also a manager on my job. I have to train employees to provide quality customer service. I’m also a mentor to many. I train people to get closer to God and to understand His Word more. Yes, I do a lot of training. But I couldn’t do any of this if I didn’t train my mind first. Did you know that you can train your mind to work for you? If not, then chances are that your mind is working against you. That may be why you’re suffering. That may be why you’re failing. That may be why you’re complaining so much. But not anymore! You can teach your mind to work for you and not against you.

Train your mind to think positive. Positive thinking produces positive results. There are so many benefits to positive thinking. Here are a few:

* Positive thinking releases the power of potential.
* Positive thinking encourages positive responses.
* Positive thinking keeps things in perspective.
* Positive thinking helps you enjoy life.
“Being positive does not mean we deny the existence of difficulty; it means we believe God is greater than our difficulties.”~ Joyce Meyer

Train your brain to trust God. Train your brain to think positive. Train your brain to have thoughts that line up with God’s Word. That’s why it’s so important to renew your mind. Fill your mind with the Word of God.
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
Romans 12:2 NLT

You can also train your brain by connecting with positive resources, such as people, books, audio teachings, and other avenues that provide valuable information. Hang around people that can pour into your life. Hang around people that cause you to think BIG. Hang around people that will stimulate your thinking.
“Just as iron sharpens iron, friends sharpen the minds of each other.” Proverbs 27:17 CEV

But even if your family, friends, coworkers, or people in your circle are not positive, just make sure that YOU are still positive. Make sure that YOU are optimistic. Make sure that YOU have a positive outlook in every situation.
“Don’t let someone else’s thinking limit you. Negativity can be contagious; you have to pay attention if you don’t want to catch it!” ~ Joyce Meyer

THE POWER OF A POSITIVE YOU.

“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.”
~ Winston Churchill

In the first chapter of Joyce Meyer’s new book “Power Thoughts” she writes on the subject of having a positive attitude. By ‘attitude’ she is referring to the system of thoughts, the mental posture, the mindset, or the way of thinking with which a person approaches life. It’s a mental position with regard to a fact or state. Your attitude, whether positive or negative, will determine your destination. Have you ever heard of the phrase, “Your attitude determines your altitude”? This is so true! The word ‘altitude’ is synonymous with the word ‘height’. In other words, your attitude will determine if you’re on the ‘top’ or ‘bottom’. A positive attitude will take you to the top. A negative attitude is a sure way to hit bottom and stay there. Nothing will hinder your success as severely as a negative attitude. For example, let’s say a man on your job has a bad attitude. He complains about everything: “I hate my job…My boss don’t appreciate me…My coworkers are lazy…I’m the only one who does all of the work…I don’t get paid enough...” How can this person ever make it to the top? Who would promote this guy?
“How could a person with those thoughts running through his mind all day ever enjoy work, become a positive employee or make valuable contributions to his company? He can’t – unless he changes his thoughts and develops a better attitude.”
~ Joyce Meyer

Many people blame their circumstance and condition for why they have a bad attitude. You can’t allow your attitude to be molded by situations. If you maintain a positive attitude, it puts you in the right mindset to eventually change your circumstance and condition. And maintaining a positive attitude is not determined by circumstance, but it’s determined by choice.
“It’s up to you. All of us have the privilege and responsibility of choosing our attitudes, no matter what circumstances or situations we find ourselves in.” ~ Joyce Meyer

So it is possible to maintain a positive attitude when you’re going through rough times. The moment that you think it’s not possible, then you’re already defeated before you even start. Rough times don’t last forever. Just make sure that your positive attitude last longer than your troubles.
“Sometimes His blessings come through unexpected circumstances we may view as negative, but if we will keep positive attitudes in the midst of those situations, we will experience the positive results God desires to give us.” ~ Joyce Meyer

So if you’re facing a challenge and you sense your attitude losing altitude, then make an attitude adjustment. It’s all up to you. Just remember that a Positive You is a Powerful You. And a Negative you is Never YOU.

Are You Willing To Pay the Price?

"All dreams have a price tag on them, and the cost is almost always higher than a person expects to pay."
~ John C. Maxwell

Many people believe that successful people are born that way. Or they believe that success came to them easy. But the truth of the matter is - It cost them something. They had to had to go through a process. They had to stretch. They had to sacrifice. They had to face challenges. You'll never hear a successful person say, "Getting to the top was much easier than I thought."
"There isn't a single person in the world who has achieved a dream without paying a price for it." ~ John C. Maxwell

You have to be willing to answer 'YES' to the Cost Question: "Am I Willing to Pay the Price for My Dream?" Before you can answer 'YES' to the Cost Question, you first need to know what the price is. If you don't know, then how can you choose to pay it? Therefore, investigate the steps that are required to achieve your goals. Count the cost.
"Is there anyone here who, planning to build a new house, doesn't first sit down and figure the cost so you'll know if you can complete it?" Luke 14:28 MSG

"Part of paying the price is the willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done. It comes from a declaration that you are going to get it done no matter what it takes, no matter how long it takes, no matter what comes up. It's a done deal. You are responsible for the results you intend." ~ Jack Canfield
